Common Sources Of Auto Electrical Problems

by Ernest Perez

Being a responsible motorist involves more than just following traffic rules as you drive around town. It is important for every driver to know a little bit about how vehicles work, including some of the most common electrical problems that you're likely to encounter as you use the automobile. A few of these problems are discussed below.

 Batteries

All the electrical energy consumed by your car is derived from the car battery.  This is why the battery will always be a part of the electrical problems on your vehicle.

When your car battery goes dead, it means that it has lost its ability to hold charge. This is usually caused by one of two things. The first of which is a defect in one of the many internal components of the vehicle. The second reason for loss of charge includes careless acts such as leaving the headlights on through the night, forgetting to turn off the stereo and so on.

A dead battery can easily be brought back to life by simply jump-starting it or having it recharged.

The Alternator

Electrical problems in your vehicle can also emanate from the alternator. The alternator is responsible for recharging the battery whenever the car is in motion.

A defective alternator cannot recharge the car battery at the desired rate, and this can make your car lose power involuntarily.  If such defects are not corrected in good time, the alternator may end up suffering further damage such as breakage. A broken alternator cannot be fixed and has to be replaced with a new one.

Another common defect to expect with car alternators is the wearing out and cracking of its belts. Once the belts are worn out or cracked, the vehicle battery can easily get discharged, causing the vehicle to lose power.

The Sparks And Spark Plugs

Sparks and spark plugs have a vital role to play in the functioning of an automobile.  Auto electrical problems may be a result of broken or cut wires within the spark plug.

Any form of damage to the mentioned wires can result in problems such as poor acceleration and stalling of the vehicle.

It is important to point out that the earlier you get any of the above problems checked out by an auto electrical expert, the less you will have to spend on repairs.
